Synopsis:

SESAR will substantially change the way, air traffic management in Europe is handled in future. The aim of the three SESAR technical workshops was to get ATM specialists acquainted with the state-of-play of some of the cornerstones of the SESAR technical concepts. Each of the session featured the SESAR specialists in the fields – from the members’ organisations and the SESAR Joint Undertaking.

Integrated Controller Working Position (iCWP)
Chairwoman: Gondo Gulean, Programme Manager, SESAR Joint Undertaking

Session overview:

A key initiative within SESAR is the design of an "integrated controller working position" (iCWP): the future working position that will form a critical component of modern, pan-European airspace management. The two hours session featured SESAR specialists in the field – from the members’ organisations, staff associations and the SESAR Joint Undertaking.

With SESAR, airports will be included in the overall ATM network and their performance will be maximised. Airports specialists from the members’ organisation and the SESAR Joint Undertaking presented this 1.5 hour session, not only the technical concept but also work performed so far and results from first validation exercises.

4D/Business Trajectory
Chairman: Serge Bagieu, SJU Programme Manager, SESAR Joint Undertaking

Session overview:

The 4D or Business Trajectory concept is one of the cornerstones of the future ATM system. In this technical workshop, SESAR specialists in the field – from the members’ organisation and the SESAR Joint Undertaking – presented to an ATM and industry oriented audience the overall concept of 4D Trajectory management and its potential to increase trajectory management accuracy into the overall ATM network as well as to maximise performance thanks to active air and ground synchronisation. One highlight of the workshop was a presentation on the results of the first i4D trials carried out in February 2012.
